I empathized with the characters in Ghost World in so many ways. For instance, when the Steve Buscemi character explained that what was just heard was not blues, but ragtime. That moment describes a larger chunk of my life: me trying to explain the significance of something that the explainee doesn't give a fuck about, usually the demo scene. And also, me getting lectured about the difference between trance and goa. And without further ado, here's the extent of my knowledge on the subject of techno's micro-subgenres:
| Ambient: | Boring and slow. |
| Trance: | Boring and fast. |
| Acid: | Lots of resonance. |
| House: | Boom tss clap tss. |
| Gabber: | Distorted 909 and BPMs over 150. |
| Jungle: | Compressed drumloops and hard-to-discern downbeats. |
| Dub: | Take any song, slow down some parts, speed up others, and add lots of delay and reverb. |
| Pop: | Any of the above with vocals. |
